Keep Moths From Eating Clothes

Keep Moths From Eating Clothes

Moths can do a lot of damage to clothes. They will eat holes right through the fabric. Mothballs are one way of keeping moths away, but mothballs smell bad and are toxic. There are some better smelling ways to keep moths from eating clothes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place pieces of cedar wood throughout your closet or attic. Every 6 months or so saturate the Cedar wood pieces with cedar oil to retain the cedar scent. Moths do not like cedar and will stay away.

2. Make small mesh bags with equal amounts of dried Rosemary, dried Lavender and dried Rose petals. Hang 1 or 2 bags in each closet or hang several in your attic. You can also place the bags on closet shelves or attic floors.

3. Place dried lemon peels in a small open container. Place a few containers throughout your closet or attic.

4. Have clothes dry cleaned before storing them. The chemicals in dry cleaning solutions deter moths.

5. Store clothing in airtight plastic containers or bags. Do not store natural fur or leather in plastic because it will get ruined.

6. Place clothing in bags and put in a freezer for 24 to 48 hours. Clothing can also be placed in a garage or shed when temperatures are below 32°. Leave in freezing temperatures to kill larvae and eggs.
