Organizing your closet by color will save you time and may even save you money. It will save you time when you can find your clothes easily in the morning and it will save you money when you are clothes shopping and you already know that you have four red sweaters. There are lots of instructions about "the right way" to organize your closet by color, but the important part is that it is organized and it is yours. Hanging Clothes
This is probably the largest section of your closet and the most important to have organized by color. Start with the color you think you wear the most. Pull out several garments of that color and put them at whichever end of your closet you have the easiest access to.
Keep Going
Pick another color you wear a lot and put all the clothing in that shade next. Keep going down the rod until you get to colors you don't like very much. You probably will not have many garments of those colors anyway. Do you want to keep them?
Prints
Some people prefer to put prints in a separate category others put them with a color group based on the dominant color in the print.
Missing Colors
Take a look and see what's not there. Knowing which colors you want to add more of to your wardrobe will help you shop smarter. Knowing which colors you already have a lot of will help you choose coordinating pieces easily when you are shopping and getting dressed.
Special Occasion Clothes
No matter how committed you are to a color organizing scheme you must admit that a formal outfit you wear once a year will just get in your way or be crushed with your everyday clothes. Keep special clothes separate.
Space Wasters
If it does not fit or needs mending it does not belong in the functional part of your closet. Give it away, get it fixed or put it in long term storage if it is something you are sure you'll wear again.
