Diy Closets

No amount of space can be sufficient for stacking clothes, shoes and other items of everyday use. Instead of having a mess of shoes and clothes in your closet, you can create another storage space by yourself. In doing so, your bedroom might shrink to a smaller size, but that is a small price you have to pay for creating an enclosure for new space. Do-it-yourself closets help you keep your stuff in an organized manner. If you have some experience, you will find closet-making an easy task. Does this Spark an idea?

Design

Deciding on the specific design of the new closet is the first thing you are required to do for making a closet. You cannot just start randomly by drilling and cutting the wood, rather you have to prepare the layout of the closet in the form of a blue print. In doing so, give a consideration to the plumbing and electrical wiring aspect.

Material

Usually, closets are made of wood or metal. Instead of going with one type of material for the entire closet, you can also mix and match to make it look more attractive. For example, a wooden hanging system and shelves can be combined with metallic attachments to give a more appealing look. No matter what material you choose, make sure that you measure the dimensions perfectly well because poor measurements can lead to a disastrous finished product.

Frame

The closet frame can be built in two ways; either construct it by laying the wood flat on the floor and raising it to the position, or, simply build it in the required positioned place. Once the frame is fixed in its place, you can trim the closet to the length you want it to be.

Shelves and Rod

Since you are the designer and also the user, you should be able to determine the number of shelves and rods to be used. Number of shelves should be determined by the number of folding clothes that you have. You can also place a shoe rack. If the closet space allows, you can place double hang rods for maximizing the storage.

Studs

Studs are an essential for every closet as they are used by almost everyone. Make sure that you purchase studs of good quality that are capable of supporting weight of the clothes without doing any damage to the closet wall. According to Tipdeck.com, typically, a stud is 16 inches on center and runs vertically within the wall.
