Organize A Front Entrance Closet

The front entrance closet is often the last door you open before you leave the house, and the first door you open after you come home. It is a place to store everything you need to go outdoors, such as coats and scarves, as well as common household items like pet food and tools. Many front entrance closets also have shelving at the top for storage.

Instructions

1. Divide the closet into five main sections: a right side and left side on the top shelving unit, a place to hang coats, a place to lean umbrellas and small household tools, and a bottom area on the floor to store footwear. An organized system will help you use the closet space more effectively and access your items more quickly.

2. Purchase clear, stackable storage containers, preferably the type that you can pull out like drawers, for the right top side of the closet. Store small household items that you need to access frequently in this section: batteries, screwdrivers and pliers, computer supplies and CDs, extension cords, sewing kit. Consider placing your family photo albums on top of the storage units.

3. Fold your scarves and place them on the left side of the shelf. Store your gloves, earmuffs, shawls and hats here as well.

4. Hang your coats on the rod toward the right side of the closet. Leave clear a small space, about a foot wide, on the left side.

5. Place a bucket on the floor on the left side of the closet. Keep your umbrellas in this section. Or use it to store your golf bag if the size of the closet permits.

6. Place shoes and boots on the floor next to the umbrella section. This is also an excellent place to store large bags of pet food in a rolling container, cat litter, cleaning supplies or pet toys.
