There are thousands of people who live their lives from paycheck to paycheck and barely have the funds to pay their bills, let alone buy clothing or other basic necessities. On the other hand, most United States citizens have a great deal of wealth to spare. This means closets full of clothing that often go unworn for years at a time. If this defines your closet, perhaps it's time to pare your wardrobe and give to those in need.
Instructions
1. Go through your closet and remove all clothing that you have not worn in the past 2 years.
2. Carefully examine all clothing articles to determine if it is in good enough shape to donate. Items that are ripped, stained or threadbare should not be donated. Sort clothing into two separate piles, one for donations and the other to throw away or turn into rags.
3. Pack up clothing into boxes or bags. Properly dispose of the clothing you won't be donating. Place the clothing you will be donating into a car.
4. Use your phone book or ask a trusted person to recommend an organization in which to donate your clothing. Reputable national resources include the Salvation Army , Goodwill Industries and St. Vincent de Paul. Other local organizations to consider are domestic abuse shelters, homeless shelters or local churches. If donation locations and times are not listed in your phone book, call to get specific details and directions.
5. Drop off your clothing at the location you choose. Ask for a receipt for tax deduction purposes.
