Garage Storage Options

3-Bay Garage

The garage is an area of the home that seems to collect a lot of items. Not only are there automobiles and automotive tools in the garage, but it is often filled with a number of other household items that simply have no other place to go. Once a garage turns into a storage area, it is important to have things properly stored and organized so that the space is used effectively. There are a number of storage options that will pack items into the garage while leaving ample space for your car. Does this Spark an idea?

Peg Board

Peg board has been considered a standard part of the garage for decades. Peg board is essentially a thin sheet of wood, similar in size to plywood, that has a lot of small holes drilled through it. This board can then be nailed to the wall, providing vertical storage that doesn't take away from the existing garage space. Wooden pegs or metal hooks can be inserted into the holes where needed. The pegs and hooks are used to hang tools, bicycles and almost anything else on the wall.

Overhead Storage

Many garages include overhead attic space that is ideal for overhead storage. This is ideal because it makes overhead storage as easy as climbing a few steps and putting your items into the attic. If your garage is finished and has no attic access, there are still options available that will give you a large amount of overhead storage without having to build an attic.

Overhead storage racks are a common solution to garage storage problems. These metal racks are bolted to the ceiling. They can hold a number of items, but without hanging so low that they interfere with the space required for your car. These racks can usually hold a significant amount of weight without danger of falling, and several racks can be hung in the garage to allow you to spread the storage out over a broader area.

Storage Cabinets

Similar to kitchen cabinets, garage storage cabinets are popular in more modern, upscale homes. These cabinets provide both overhead cabinet storage, and drawer storage below. Cabinet doors keep items out of sight, which many people consider to be a chief advantage over other forms of wall storage. Countertops provide homeowners with work space within the garage, and many cabinet sets come with roll-away work benches that can be positioned anywhere in the garage.
