Use A Dresser As A Filing Cabinet

Where should this go?

If your room seems chaotic and disorganized, one way to improve the situation is to use a filing system. However, if adding a filing cabinet makes your room more congested--or if you don't want to make your room look like an office--there is an alternative. Convert the drawers in your dresser into a filing cabinet. It is a simple solution that results in a better organized room--and it costs very little money. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the drawers in your dresser to determine which ones are large enough to convert into a file cabinet. The standard size of a file folder is 8 1/2 by 11 inches. If you want to install a hardware suspension frame, it will take another 2 inches.

2. Purchase file folder sleeves, file folders, labels, and suspension frame. You can find everything you need at an office supply store. The metal frames come in different sizes and are adjustable.

3. Install the frames inside the dresser drawers. They can be easily attached with a few screws at most; some frames don't even require screws.

4. Place the file folder sleeves into your new file cabinet. The sleeves will hang in place on the frame.

5. Organize your paperwork in file folders. Designate each folder with a label. Prioritize the files in terms of frequency of use. Place paperwork and information you rarely use in the back of the cabinet and save the front for the papers you use most often.
