Replace A Closet Door With A Homemade Curtain

In a room with little extra space, a closet door can be cumbersome as it knocks into furniture when opening. Removing the closet door and replacing it with a homemade curtain gives you full coverage of the storage area and more floor space to work with. Select fabric colors that match upholstery or bedding in the room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the existing closet door. Unscrew the hinges that hold it in place and carefully lift it away. Fill the screw holes with wood putty, and paint in the existing wood or trim color.

2. Locate the nearest wall studs on either side of the door. Mark the studs for reference. Install one curtain rod mounting bracket on either side of the closet door, in the wall studs. Place each one at the same height. Drill pilot holes for the screws if they don't go in on their own.

3. Measure from the mounting bracket down to the floor and remember the number for reference. Measure the width of the closet and add at least 6 inches to the number. Cut a piece of fabric in these measurements. Fold the fabric over 1/2 inch along the top and hem. Repeat for the bottom to complete the homemade curtain.

4. Place a row of curtain clip rings on the curtain rod. Clip your homemade curtain in place and arrange it so it covers the closet.
