Smudge With California White Sage

Burning a smudge stick of California white sage is a ceremonial ritual passed down through generations. The smoke of burning sage cleanses the house or objects of negative energy. To help the smoke waft through the room, you can use a smudge wand, which is the tail or wing feather of a bird. The best feathers are ones that you find, not those you have purchased in a store or taken from hunted animals. If you don’t have a feather, use your hand to help direct the smoke. Choose a time to burn your smudge stick of California white sage when you have no interruptions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase a bundle of California white sage. You can also grow your own to use as a smudge stick.

2. Open all closet doors, dresser drawers and cabinets. You will want the smoke to penetrate into and around everything in your house or office.

3. Ask God, or your Divine Source, to be with you and guide you as you perform this ritual.

4. Light the end of the smudge stick. Allow the end to flame, and then blow it out. To keep the end burning, blow into the embers. If you don’t do this, the fire may extinguish itself. Should this happen, simply relight.

5. Smudge yourself. Begin directing the smoke to the bottoms of your feet, then toward the rest of your body, traveling upward.

6. Direct the smoke around the entire door frame. Do this with every door inside your home or office and those leading to the outdoors.

7. Direct the smoke around each room or object that you want to smudge with smoke. First, waft smoke to the four corners of the room. Then direct the smoke to the middle of the room.

8. Say a prayer after you are finished with the smudging ritual. Thank God or the Divine Spirit for help and blessings to those who dwell in the house and to all who enter.

9. Open the windows and doors. This will allow the smoke that is heavy with bad energy to go outside while allowing fresh air and harmony inside the house.
