Make A Hanging Shoe Rack

You can make your own hanging shoe rack to store your shoes.

If you're having a space issue in your closet due to the number of pairs of shoes you have, one way to resolve the problem is to set up a hanging shoe rack. These racks, which come in many different styles, contain a number of pockets where you can insert your shoes. You can purchase one of these racks in a home goods store rather cheaply. But if you're a handy type, you can make your own hanging shoe rack using a few simple tools.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of upholstery fabric (you can find it at a craft or fabric shop) using a pair of sharp fabric-cutting scissors down to 1 foot wide by about 4 feet long. The final cut size should fit comfortably inside of your closet.

2. Place two wire hangers at the top of the fabric and fold the fabric down over the bottom rung of the hangers. Use your sewing machine or needles, along with heavy duty thread, to sew the fabric in place over the hangers. Hold the fabric up by the hanger to assure it's sturdy when you're done.

3. Cut the remaining piece of upholstery fabric into eight .75-by-.75-foot squares.

4. Place two squares on either side of the hanging fabric so that they line up with each other. Sew the sides and bottom of the squares until they are both attached to the main piece of fabric. Repeat this process down the entire piece of fabric with your other six pieces.

5. Hang the shoe rack in your closet and store your pairs of shoes in the newly created pockets on either side of the fabric.
