An organized closet helps you find what you need.
Closets are necessary and many of us go from day to day without giving our closets much thought. We start thinking about them when they are cluttered and we can't find what we need. Don't let a messy closet stress you out. Instead, take an afternoon and tackle it head on. It's easy to arrange your closet and you'll l appreciate it when it's done. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Empty your closet. The best way to begin this task is starting with a bare closet.
2. Organize the items that were in your closet by type. Create separate piles for shirts, pants, dresses, coats, shoes and other accessories. You may also want to divide work clothes and formal pieces, too. Make as many sections as you need to feel as though all your items are organized.
3. Throw out or give away items you don't need, never wear or never envision yourself wearing. This includes clothes that don't fit or items that have gone out of style.
4. Add shelves to the inside your closet. These can be short or long, depending on the size of your closet. Choose a durable type and place them high to avoid making any cumbersome areas. Place items you use every day in an easy-to-reach spot at eye level.
5. Place a second rod beneath the existing one for double hanging space. Use the lower rod for shirts and pants folded over.
6. Hang formal pieces first and place them next to the wall.
7. Fold sweaters and lighter clothing items on shelves. Plastic boxes on out-of-the-way shelves work well for scarves, gloves and other seasonal accessories.
8. Organize shoes in shoeboxes or on a shoe rack.
9. Hang a mesh bag in your closet to keep up with small items, such as socks and stockings. Attach hooks to your closet doors for belt, purses and other accessories.
