Fix A Shoe With An Unglued Sole

Save a shoe's sole with glue.

If the sole of one of your shoes is coming unglued due to everyday wear and tear, you can fix it yourself using a little adhesive. Fixing your own shoe will save you money and a trip to the repair shop. Put in a little time and effort to keep that pair of shoes out of the landfill and in your closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cover a work surface with a newspaper to protect it from the dirty shoe sole as well as the adhesive.

2. Clean the unglued sole with a cloth dipped in warm, soapy water to remove any residue that may prevent the glue from adhering. Dry the sole with another cloth. Peel any loose adhesive off the sole to create a smooth surface for the new glue.

3. Choose a type of adhesive, such Shoe Goo or Freesole, made especially for shoe repair. Look for these durable and flexible adhesives at shoe repair shops and sporting goods stores. For another option, choose a cyanoacrylate-based adhesive, such as Superglue. Apply a thin strip of the glue between the bottom of the shoe and the sole.

4. Spread the glue over the sole evenly using a knife. Press the shoe down onto the sole to create a secure bond. Place a heavy object, such as book, on top of the shoe as the glue dries to create a secure bond. Wipe away any oozing glue with a cotton swab. Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours, or according to the manufacturer's recommendations, before wearing the shoe.
