Install a kitchen organizer unit or cabinet piece using creative techniques.
Any type of kitchen organizational shelving or storage units can be built as part of a solid wall. Think of building the wall around the piece which can serve as the focal point of the kitchen.
Be sure to use an organizational piece, whether large or small, that will look appropriate for a few years. Select an antique piece, stainless steel organizer or basic square cabinet organizer for dishes, for example, that fits with modern kitchens. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Measure the organizer piece you wish to incorporate into a wall. Sketch the wall on graph paper and figure out how much room to allow for the organizational piece. Draw where to place boards to frame the walls on 18-inch centers running perpendicular to the floor. Use 2-inch by 4-inch framing boards secured with 3-inch nails. Plan to enclose the wall with drywall or bead board over the framing.
2. Allow room in the wall framing to box in a section to accommodate the cabinet or shelving piece. Nail drywall over the wall's back from an adjoining room, if you are creating a wall where none stood. Place the organizational unit into the wall cavity after finishing or painting the back area facing into the kitchen where it will show. Nail drywall over exposed wall framing that faces into the kitchen to surround the organizational unit. Finish drywall with joint compound and paint.
3. Add wood trim or crown molding around the framed area where the storage unit rests.
4. Secure additional shelving to the wall on top of drywall, once it's sanded and painted.
5. Purchase some base cabinets to add plenty of storage on the wall.
