Build A Jewelry Armoire In The Wall

Build your jewelry armoire between two studs in a wall to make the most of unused space.

Like many homeowners, you've likely decided there isn't any more room in your home for another piece of furniture. Other times you think you could use a bit more storage space. The key to this dilemma involves utilizing space you already have---the space in between the studs on your walls, for example. A jewelry armoire would fit perfectly in such a space, creating a new home for necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Build a Jewelry Armoire in the Wall

1. Use a stud finder to locate a spot between two studs where you'd like to build your armoire. Measure and mark off the armoire's dimensions.

2. Use a skill saw to cut an opening between the studs. Remove any insulation and discard. Measure pieces of wood trim to fit around the new opening and cut to size using your skill saw.

3. Install the shelving hardware. Measure and cut wood for one or two shelves, depending on the size of your armoire and the number of shelves you choose.

4. Measure and cut the piece for the armoire door. Cut additional pieces of trim if you plan to frame the door in trim.

5. Stain all of the wood using wood stain and a paintbrush. Wipe away the excess with a clean rag. Allow the stain to dry for one or two hours between coats. Once you have the desired tone of stain, allow the drying process to continue for 24 hours before proceeding to build your jewelery armoire.

6. Measure and mark where your armoire door hinges will be installed. Affix the hinges to the door and frame using a drill or power screwdriver. Add the door knob in the same fashion.

7. Screw cup hooks inside the armoire on the back wall portion. You can also screw in a few underneath any added shelving. These are easy to screw in by hand and will be perfect for hanging necklaces and bracelets.
