Mudroom Floor Ideas

Ceramic tile for a mudroom floor.

When choosing which floor type to use for a mudroom, consider the amount of traffic it will receive. In areas where the weather is extremely rainy, mudrooms offer an area to remove shoes and wet clothes before entering the main room of the house. Other uses for a mudroom include storing coats, umbrellas, hats and other items that may be carried out of the house often. Does this Spark an idea?

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile comes in a variety of colors and styles. It is also extremely durable. Since a mudroom catches shoes and clothes that are worn in from outside, having a floor that can hold up to the extreme measures such as high traffic, dirt and moisture is important. Ceramic tile is also easy to clean and disinfect. Use a mixture of water and vinegar to clean ceramic tile floors and prevent stains and mildew.

Laminate

Installing laminate floor is easy and economical. The finished look is much like hardwood floor but more durable. Laminate floor is also called a "floating floor". This allows it to be placed over areas that may be uneven or moisture damaged. The finish on laminate flooring is strong and resists stains. If damage occurs, it is easy to replace or repair the damaged areas. Clean it with warm water and vinegar or a formula designed for laminate floors to keep it looking new.

Vinyl

A mudroom is a great place to use vinyl floor covering. The large array of patterns and colors available makes it versatile. Vinyl resists moisture and is easy to clean. It is an economical and low-maintenance choice for a mudroom floor. Use a mixture of water and a disinfecting cleaner to clean vinyl flooring.

Hardwood

Using hardwood floor in a mudroom can increase the value of your home. Hardwood floors are offered in several different types, woods and stain colors. In high traffic areas, hardwood does not hold up as well as other types of flooring. If it becomes scratched or nicked, repairing it is not difficult, but may be time-consuming. Sanding and refinishing hardwood floors keeps it looking fresh and new.
