Recycle Carpet Scraps

If you have new carpet in your home, you probably have carpet scraps: pieces of carpet that aren't quite big enough to cover an appreciable space, but that are still large enough to have some purpose, you'd think. If you'd like to put those carpet scraps to good use, have a look at some of these suggestions.

Instructions

1. Position a narrow strip of carpet on the floor between the washer and dryer. When socks and other small articles of clothing slip between the two appliances, just pull out the strip of carpet and recover the items.

2. Stop the shake, rattle and roll. When the washer or dryer makes a lot of noise, a carpet scrap beneath it helps muffle the racket.

3. Make a scratching post for your cat by stapling a carpet scrap over a post or board. Nail the post to a board to create a free standing scratching post. Rub on a little catnip as an added attraction.

4. Exercise or do yoga on a carpet mat. Cut a rectangle about 3 feet wide and as long as you are tall. Roll it up and stow it in the closet or under the bed.

5. Glue a carpet scrap to a block of wood to make a buffer. Depending on the size, you can use one to shine shoes, clean screens or erase a blackboard.

6. Reduce the clatter of pots and pans. Cushion a kitchen shelf or cabinet with a piece of carpet.

7. Make your own car mats. Cut carpet remnants to fit your floorboards and save the expense of buying new floor mats.
