Repair Folding Closet Doors

If that folding (bifold) door on your closet has the wobbles or just simply gets stuck, it is probably due to a faulty or loose pivot pin. There is a way to repair the door, but it requires a little time, the right tools and some patience. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Wobbly Folding Door

1. Remove the door from the track by lifting the panel and sliding it out.

2. Remove the pivot pin from the hole. You may need pliers to do this.

3. Get a wooden dowel (a round wooden rod), and drill the pivot hole in the closet door to the diameter of the rod.

4. Put glue in the hole and insert the dowel. Allow to dry. Once dry cut the dowel off level with the door. You now have a door with no pivot pin opening.

5. Drill a new hole to set the pivot pin. You may need to get a new pin if it is damaged.

6. Line up the door, lift and reset into place.

Cracked or Broken Door Panel

7. Lift and remove the door from the tracks.

8. Remove the hardware from the broken door, freeing it from the hinges.

9. Measure the broken bifold section and purchase a similar one with the exact measurements at the hardware or building supply store.

10. Paint or finish the door to match those existing.

11. Measure the location of screw holes to attach the hardware. Pre-drill at those locations.

12. Reattach the hardware and rehang the door.
