Installing a wall cabinet in a bathroom is a task that is completed easily with two people. Minimal tools are needed, and there is no major construction involved. Instructions
1. Measure the space where the cabinet will be placed before you purchase your cabinet, especially if installing the cabinet over a toilet. Many bathrooms have a smaller wall space where the toilet is located. Using a tape measure, measure the width of the wall and the height from the top of the toilet tank to the ceiling. The bottom of most cabinets are approximately 2 feet above the tank.
2. Measure 2 feet above the toilet and place a mark on the wall with a pencil. From this point, use the stud finder to locate two wall studs, and mark where they are located. Most studs are 16 inches apart. The studs are important for securing the cabinet to the wall. Once you have located and marked where the studs are at, drive a nail into each point. The nail will give the bottom of the cabinet something to rest on while it is being secured to the wall.
3. Raise the cabinet and rest the bottom of it on the nails. While your helper is holding the cabinet in place, measure the distance from the inside of the bottom of the cabinet to the nail where the stud is located. This is the distance that the screws will be placed to secure the cabinet.
4. Locate the shelf braces inside the cabinet at the back. This is where the screws will be inserted to secure the cabinet to the wall. Place a mark from the inside of the cabinet on the brace using the distance that you came up with when measuring from the bottom of the cabinet to the nail. Do this from both sides. If there are three braces, then you will use six screws--two screws on each cabinet brace.
5. Use your drill to insert one screw, but do not completely tighten it. Place the 2-foot level on the bottom shelf to make sure that the cabinet is level on the wall. Make any necessary adjustments, and then completely tighten the screw. Insert the rest of the screws, and remove the nails from the wall.
