Optimize Apartment Storage Space

Use items that work for both decor and storage.

Use all the available space in your apartment to keep your belongings in place, optimize space and keep your area neat and organized. This involves making sure everything is accessible and in its spot. When items get piled up or stacked in a closet, they are difficult to find and you often have to pull everything apart to find what you need, which creates more of a mess. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use all the available space efficiently. Fill up shallow storage boxes, and keep them under the bed. Hang organizers on the walls in closets and over doors to keep items off the floor and within reach. Hang shelves on the walls throughout the apartment to utilize wall space. Make the shelves attractive by setting wicker baskets on them and filling them up. Use clear containers in closets and under beds so you can see what you are looking for.

2. Buy furniture that has several purposes. For example, use a chest to store items and as a bench in the living room or by the front door. Select a couch that is a convertible bed or a couch that lifts up and stores items inside. Install a Murphy bed in a room, which folds up into the wall and pulls down when it's needed so the space around it can be used during the day.

3. Build or buy customized storage units. Also, install organizers that swing out so you can see what you are getting. Use customized organizers in all of your closets so it is easier to stack items and find what you are looking for.

4. Collect interesting or vintage baskets, hat boxes and other containers to keep items in. Place these around the house where you need them. Roll towels to store them on the bathroom counter in an attractive container, or keep a pretty basket next to the couch to hold items you use daily.
