Leather purses are durable and fashionable accessories that can retain their beauty and function for years. However, while leather is strong, it is not indestructible. When not cared for properly, leather purses or handbags can develop creases and wrinkles. If left untreated, these blemishes can become irreparable cracks in the material. Fixing wrinkles in leather purses doesn't take long, and requires little more than a hanger and an iron. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Hang your leather purse to allow the creases and wrinkles to release on their own. Find a hanger with clips that can hold the purse. Ensure that the wrinkles on the purse aren't touching the hanger or clips. Hang the bag in a well-ventilated area of your home, such as in an empty closet or archway. Make sure the purse won't be crushed or have any contact with other items while hanging.
2. Let the purse hang untouched for a few days to a week. The weight of the leather and shape of the purse should pull the material back into its original form and remove any creases and wrinkles.
3. Use an iron to remove tougher wrinkles if the hanging method doesn't work. Remove all the water from the iron. You will not need any steam for this project, and water drops can damage the leather. Turn the iron on to its lowest setting. Find a piece of clean cotton material, such as a T-shirt or handkerchief. Do not use materials such as paper or polyester in this process. Lay the purse with the wrinkled side facing up and place the cotton fabric over the affected area. Press the iron gently over the wrinkles and move it back and forth. The wrinkles should come out.
4. Care for your leather purse to ensure it doesn't develop more wrinkles in the future. Condition the material with a leather lotion. This will replenish the oils in the leather to keep it looking soft, and will also prevent the leather from drying out and developing more wrinkles. When storing the bag, stuff it with tissue paper, bubble wrap or clean fabrics to help keep its shape. Store it in a dust bag or natural-fiber pillowcase.
