Teen Clothing Fashion Tips

Winter teen fashion

Teen fashion moves at a rapid pace, with drastic changes happening from season to season. It's impossible to keep up, especially on a teenager's budget. If you want to look like a teen celebrity, but can't afford to revamp your wardrobe every season, try looking at your closet full of clothes from a different viewpoint. It's easy to be fashionable without spending a bundle; you just have to know the secrets.

Key Pieces

The trick to keeping your wardrobe up to date for every season is investing in key wardrobe pieces. Buy a great pair of jeans in a normal wash. The less detail they have, the less noticeable they will be as you transition them from look to look. Buy the basic business casual pieces, such as a pair of black pants, a white button down shirt and a pencil skirt. Also, make sure you have a pair of shoes for both brown and black outfits, one open-toed and one close-toed version. Make sure all of these items are tailored to fit you well, as they are the foundation of your wardrobe. For this same reason, expect to spend a little more money on these items since they will last a long time. If you can't afford to buy them yourself, build your collection with Christmas and birthday gifts and, if you have one, a back-to-school budget.

Accessories

Accessories are important to bringing these key items up to date with the season. Low-cost necklaces, bracelets, hats, hair accessories and handbags can be purchased very inexpensively if you look in the right places. Buy jewelry at discount stores, such as Target, Forever21 and Wet Seal. This type of jewelry is trendy and will not stay in style more than a few seasons, so you don't need to buy any high-quality, high-priced pieces. Think vintage for handbags. Check thrift stores for small clutches and purses. You also may be able to find some pretty hairpins, scarves and hats at thrift stores that can easily be washed, sanitized and used to dress up your look.

Bargains

The key to looking high fashion without spending a fortune is learning to bargain shop. In order to do this, you have to find low-priced clothing items that look expensive, which is easy to do. The first hint is to shop for clothes at the end of the season, when stores mark down the previous season's styles. Often, certain styles transition into the next season, so if you wait to buy those $100 boots in June, you will get a killer deal that you can debut the next season. The best part is, no one but you will know what a great discount you found. Another point to remember is that you don't have to get the hottest styles at the hottest clothing stores. Many specialty retailers, such as Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and Wet Seal, sell inexpensive versions of the hottest styles of the season. Also, don't forget the off-price department stores, such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls and DSW. These places have a team of buyers who specially negotiate prices down on name brand merchandise, and offer it to you for a fraction of the price. No one will ever know you didn't pay full price, and you can look stylish while saving your money for more important things.
