Ideas For Big Closets

Use a closet organizer with a shoe rack to keep your shoes tidy.

If you finally have that walk-in closet that you always dreamed of, you may now wonder what to do with it. While you are maximizing a large closet for easy entry and optimum organizational capacity, don't forget to also make it a pleasant place to be. Several tried and tested methods of big closet design demonstrate best exploit the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Closet Organizers

Closet organizers are much like bookcases--compartmentalized units set against or built into the wall for the convenient insertion and arrangement of items. But closet organizers are more multifunctional. A closet organizer is divided into different sections of various dimensions. They contain, for example, larger, open sections for hanging clothes, a series of racks for shoes, cubbies to insert baskets and storage tubs and drawers for folded clothes. Purchase individual, pre-manufactured units to combine in your closet, hire a carpenter to construct an organizer to fit your specifications or utilize an online company that allows you to design your own organizer.

Furniture

A simple piece of furniture set inside a large closet adds a feeling of coziness. Use a comfortable, low stool or a padded bench where you can put on or take off your shoes. Utilize an island or even a bedside table set in the middle of the closet to provide a surface for laying out clothes or setting down your purse. If your island or bedside table has drawers or shelves, it also provides extra storage space. If you have the space, the inclusion of a vanity gives you a tabletop, extra drawers, a place to sit and a mirror all in one.

Decorations

If you have a closet you use frequently, add some visual accents. For example, hang small, framed pictures on blank spaces of wall. The outer side walls of your closet organizer is another place to hang framed pictures. Possible pictures for the frames include family photos or kids' artwork. Vintage clothing ads are also a unique idea. Wall decals stuck to the wall, such as stars or birds, are another way to decorate. Paint the walls to add color or with a simple pattern like stripes or a checkerboard. Adorn your island or vanity with scented decorations, such as a scented candle or a dish of potpourri.
