Recycle your old cassettes.
Although cassette tapes have lost popularity and are probably gathering dust in your closet, many people still enjoy using them to listen to their favorite bands. By following a few simple steps, you can access resources for disposal of your cassette collection.
Instructions
1. List an advertisement for the cassettes through Craigslist or the local classified ads (See Resources). Since cassettes are no longer a first preference for listening to music, consider selling them at a low price or offering them for free.
2. Donate cassettes to local thrift stores or consignment shops. Many people still own tape players and frequent these locations to purchase cassettes.
3. Give cassettes to family members, friends or associates. Ask about their musical preferences and allow them to view and select cassettes.
4. Call or visit a local recycling facility to inquire about their recycling program. Some recycling plants recycle cassette tapes as part of their ongoing efforts to reduce waste.
5. Transfer music from cassettes to MP3 players or CDs via a computer or try sites such as Reclaim Media or Audiomover for conversion services. Fees include the cost of converting the music files, number of cassettes and shipping and handling. (See Resources)
