A ClosetMaid shelving system can help you bring order to any messy closet, as the pieces of the system are completely customizable to your needs. Once the shelving system is in place, there may come a time when you need to take it down, either to rearrange it to give yourself more room, or to remove it altogether. The disassembly process is pretty much exactly the reverse of the assembly process, with the exact steps dependent on whether you have a vertical rail system or if your ClosetMaid shelf is installed directly into wall brackets. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Vertical Rail System
1. Remove all items that are on the shelf system or hanging from bars. Lift up on any hanger bars to remove them. Lift up on the hanger bar supports to free them, before pulling down to remove them from the closet system.
2. Remove any corner support pieces by lifting on one of the two shelf pieces to release the tension on the support piece. You can then slide the support piece out.
3. List up on the front of the shelves to remove them. Some ClosetMaid systems may have a lock on the back of the shelves, where the shelf meets the support. Find the plastic tab on the back of the support and push it away from the wall to free the shelf.
4. Push up on the shelf supports to unlock them from the vertical supports. Tilt the shelf supports down slightly and pull them away from the vertical support.
5. Remove any screws in the vertical support. Push it up to remove it from the top support bar. Once all the vertical supports are gone, remove the screws from the top support bar to remove it from the wall.
Individual Shelf Supports
6. Remove all items from the ClosetMaid shelf. Pull up on any hanger bars to remove them. Push up to release the hanger bar supports, before pulling them down to remove them.
7. Remove any corner brackets by pulling up on one of the corner shelves, which will relieve the tension on the bracket, and then pulling the bracket away from the shelf.
8. Remove the screws located at the bottom of the metal support running from the wall to the front of the shelf. Once the screw is out the support will fall away from the shelf.
9. Locate the screws on the back of any support poles you might have installed. These poles are clipped onto the front of any shelf that doesn't rest against a wall. Remove the screws from the back of the pole, and then remove the pole.
10. Lift up on the shelves to remove them from the wall brackets and the wall clips.
11. Remove the screws from the brackets and clips to remove them from the wall.
