CCNP courses
prepare students for the Cisco examination and certification.
A CCNP, or Cisco Certified Network Professional course, is aimed at information technology professionals who have at least one year's experience of networking. The type of professionals who may find the CCNP useful in their careers are network technicians, network engineers, systems engineers and support engineers. The course is offered at community and technical colleges and continuing education services at some universities. The four core courses of the CCNP programs offered prepare students to pass the Cisco CCNP certificate examination.
TulsaTech
TulsaTech offers a CCNP certification course to both high school students and adults. The course is taught at TulsaTech's Riverside campus. Applicants must have previously completed a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) course or have a CCNA certification. Students can major in one of four specialties. These are Enterprise Network Professional, Enterprise Network Associate, PC Support Technician and Network PC Support Technician. The course may also count as college credit for some local universities. The CCNP program runs from August through May in a morning slot, as of February 2011.
Houston Community College
Houston Community College offers a course that lasts 380 college hours. Applicants need to have CCNA experience but a certificate is not required. The course combines lab instruction and lectures. The course teaches students build, implement and optimize complex networks.
Kaplan Continuing Education
Kaplan Continuing Education offers an online course for CCNP students. The course lasts six months. Applicants must have a CCNA certificate and experience in working with Cisco network components. Students will also need to provide a high school diploma or GED prior to admission to the course. The pace of the course is controlled by the student, up to a maximum of six months, and the program incorporates Cisco equipment. This equipment is used for practical lessons that the student can perform online.
Henry Ford Community College
Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan, also requires applicants to its CCNP course to have CCNA certification. The college offers the four required CCNP courses and two more elective courses as part of an Associate of Applied Science degree. The course is open to both professionals and current students. Students must complete 16 credit hours to finish the course. The components of the course can be taken in any order.
Weber State University
Located in Ogden, Utah, Weber State University offers CCNP courses to current Weber students and also to businesses. Businesses can customize their own Cisco course to suit their employees. Students must already have a CCNA certification before they can be admitted to the class.
