Help organize your closet with pegboard.
Pegboard is a thin but durable sheet of wood with a series of symmetrically placed holes in it. Hooks are placed in the holes for storing items such as hammers, rakes or brooms. Pegboard is efficient around the work bench, but there are also plenty of pegboard closet storage ideas that will help you create more space in your closet. If you have clothing or other items in your closet that you would like to move out of the way but keep stored in your closet, put some pegboard to work for you. Does this Spark an idea?
Along the Back Wall
Line the back wall of your closet with pegboard, and use pegboard hooks to store ties you do not wear often, belts, purses and any other item that can easily be hung. Using pegboard gets these items off the floor or off a hanger in the closet, where they take up space. If you allow items such as your old ties to fall to the floor of your closet, they can become wrinkled and you will not be able to use them in a hurry. Using pegboard allows everything to stay neat and ready for use.
Hanging Pegboard
Drill a hole large enough in a piece of pegboard to fit over your closet hanging bar, and hang items in the holes. You can hang several pieces of clothing on one sheet of pegboard, then move the pegboard to the side so the clothing does not get wrinkled. Your old clothes are hung and still neat, and they are out of your way, thanks to pegboard.
Shelves
Create pegboard shelves by drilling holes in a 2-inch-thick piece of wood, then securing the long ends of pegboard hooks in the holes using glue. Use at least two hooks per shelf evenly spaced for stability. Hang these shelves on the pegboard you have installed along the back wall of your closet for a place to put things like old shoes, accessories such as bracelets and necklaces or items such as small statues that you would like to safely store in the back of your closet.
