Temaril-P is used to treat skin conditions in dogs.
Temaril-P is a prescription medication that is intended for canine use. Temaril-P is used to provide relief for itchiness in dogs. It is also used to decrease inflammation that is often associated with canine skin conditions, including dermatitis, otititis and eczema. Temaril-P is also often used to treat coughing in dogs, as well as bronchitis. There are various different side effects that are occasionally associated with use of Temaril-P.
Common Side Effects
Some of the most common side effects of Temaril-P in dogs include upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive food ingestion, extreme thirst, weight gain, dry and dull hair coat, panting, frequent urination, viciousness, aggressive behavior, lethargy, depression, muscle wasting and hypotension (low blood pressure). If any of these symptoms are particularly problematic and do not subside, veterinary attention must be sought immediately.
Corticosteroid Side Effects
Temaril-P is a combination of corticosteroid and antihistamine. There are various side effects that are often linked to use of corticosteroids, which include loss of potassium, sodium retention, increased levels of SAP (Serum alkaline phosphatase) and SGPT (gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase), diarrhea (sometimes bloody), throwing up, osteoporosis, weight loss, slow healing of wounds, Cushing's disease, suppression of adrenal cortical functions, increased liver enzymes, blood dyscrasias and negative nitrogen balance. Dogs might also become more susceptible to bacterial invasion due to use of Temaril-P.
Other Possible Side Effects
Dogs might also experience extreme drowsiness and exhaustion from Temaril-P. The drowsiness should subside quickly. Urinary retention is a possible, but highly rare side effect of Temaril-P. Dry mouth is another possible side effect of the medication. Should any of these side effects persist or even perhaps get worse with time, veterinary attention must be received as soon as possible.
