Reset A Whirlaway Garbage Disposal

Reset a Whirlaway Garbage Disposal

Whirlaway garbage disposals are one way to cut down on waste in the kitchen. Whirlaway disposals allow you to dispose of food waste down the drain by grinding the waste with razor sharp blades. When the blades jam because something is stuck between them, the Whirlaway disposal shuts off to protect the motor. Resetting a Whirlaway garbage disposal requires removing any obstruction that cased the disposal to shut off.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Whirlaway garbage disposal power cord from the outlet or turn off the circuit breaker to the unit.

2. Pull the rubber splash guard out of the sink drain with your hand. Look inside the drain for any foreign objects such as silverware. Use a pair of long handle tongs to remove foreign objects from the drain and disposal.

3. Insert a wooden spoon into the drain and beside the impeller blades. Push the blades with the wooden spoon to make sure they rotate freely. Sometimes peelings become stuck under the blades causing the Whirlaway to turn off and trip the reset button.

4. Go under the sink and find the red reset button on the side of the Whirlaway disposal. The reset button is near the bottom of the disposal close to the discharge pipe.

5. Press the reset button until it remains flush with the side of the unit. Plug the disposal power cord back into the wall outlet or turn on the circuit breaker to the unit.

Tips Warnings

Never stick your hands down the drain near the blades. Always use tongs to remove objects from the drain.
