Keep The Clothes In A Closet From Smelling

There are many things you can do to keep clothes fresh in a closet.

Clothes crammed together in a closet may start to smell stale, or worse, over time. This can happen even if clothes are placed in the closet clean and fresh-smelling. Clothing may attract moisture, pollutants from the air, and general odors. There are many things you can do to prevent clothes in a closet from developing an unpleasant odor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Sort through your clothing. Get rid of what you no longer need or wear. The less crowded your closet, the easier it will be to keep fresh. Poorly ventilated, crowded closets invite stale odors.

2. Remove soiled clothing. Hang only clean clothes in a closet. Even if you have worn an item only once, it could hold body odor. Perspiration and oils from the body, even in small traces, can make neighboring clothing develop odor.

3. Place clean clothing on cedar hangers. Cedar is naturally aromatic and can help keep your clothes fresher. When the hangers' scent dissipates, you can refresh them easily by applying cedar oil to the wood, Make sure the wood is dry before placing clothing on the hanger so the oil does not transfer.

4. Hang dryer sheets or aromatic sachets in the closet among the clothing. How many you need depends on the size of your closet, but use at least 1 per 5 articles of clothing. You will need to replace dryer sheets and sachets as the aroma wears off.

5. Keep the closet dry. In some climates humidity is not a problem, but if you live where mildew is likely use a small dehumidifier in the closet to reduce moisture.
