Instructions

Childrens wardrobe building basics

1. Start by getting several "dress up" pieces. For a boy, start with a nice dress shirt, preferably white to start, and a pair of dress slacks, preferably black or navy in color. Depending on how dressed up the child needs to be it may be a good idea to have a suit. Buy a size or two larger than the child is currently wearing since the child may outgrow it quickly. A pair of dress shoes and dress socks will be needed as well. For a girl, start with a nice dress, tights, and dress shoes or sandals. These basic dress essentials can be suitable for church, weddings, holidays, and any other special occasions. A dress coat or jacket may also be needed for cold weather conditions.

2. Pick some good mix and match pieces that can be worn when going places. For boys this would include khaki pants, nicer jeans, polo style shirts, button down shirts, sweaters, and other collared shirts. Pair these with some dressier shoes such as loafers or oxfords. For girls a casual dress or blouse and nicer pants and a cardigan or sweater would be appropriate. Also consider a stylish pair of shoes. These casual, but nicer pieces are appropriate for dining out, or visiting friends and relatives.

3. Add play clothes will be needed for everyday. These can be t-shirts, durable jeans, shorts, sweatpants and sweatshirts, or whatever the child is most comfortable wearing. Sneakers, tennis shoes, and sandals are perfect for play. Basically, play clothes can be anything durable than can get dirty. Don't forget about basic essentials such as socks, underwear, undershirts, and pajamas.

4. Purchase a winter coat, a warm hat to cover their ears, mittens or gloves, a scarf, boots, and snow pants or a snowsuit.

5. Keep room in the wardrobe for summer clothes. During hot weather, you need a swimsuit or swim trunks, a hat to shield the sun, sandals or flip-flops, and shorts.
