Reduce The Shoe Smell In Your Closet

Deodorize shoe smell with baking soda.

Closets are a small, enclosed areas that receives little circulation. When you place shoes in the closet, you can get left with an unpleasant foot odor that emits through your closet space. To reduce this smell, use deodorizing agents that actually absorb the odor. Avoid air freshening sprays, as these may work for a short period to mask the smell, but are ineffective overall in actually getting rid of the odor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Leave the closet door open as much as possible so the closet can ventilate. This greatly reduces closet odor.

2. Remove everything from the closet floor. Sprinkle baking soda over the entire floor and let it sit overnight with the closet door closed. Vacuum the floor the next day to collect the baking soda. The soda will have absorbed much, if not all, of the shoe smell.

3. Place bowls filled with 1 cup each of baking soda around the closet, especially near the shoes.

4. Throw 3 blocks of activated charcoal into old socks and place in the closet. This charcoal is available at pet stores and works as a deodorizer.
