Interior Design Ideas White Trim To Complement A Wood Closet

Painting white around wood brings out the grain.

Designing by color is a smart way to remodel. As a minimalist color, white is simple but clean and sophisticated, creating a polished look. When painting a white trim to complement a wood closet, the effect brings out the grain and bold natural coloring in the wood. Does this Spark an idea?

Weathered

Highlight a worn wood look with a fresh, white paint trim. If you have a closet that is a gray, light brown or aged wood, freshen up the look with a fresh coating of white paint. When selecting the shade of white --- there are many --- go with one that complements other parts of your home. For instance, match the color white with the ceiling color. Or, if you want to try something different, go with an off-white tone to create a sort of weathered white look.

Bright Colors

If you like the wood closet but want to add more color to your home, stain the wood a bold color. Cedar wood, for example, takes staining well in 100 percent acrylics and oil-based topcoats in blues, yellow and cherry reds. After staining the wood, adding a white or off-white trim draws out the new color and texture of the original wood grain. Continue the pattern inside the closet by painting the closet interior white with a colored trim or painting it the stained wood color and adding a white trim around the shelves and drawers.

Stenciling

Show off the white trim surrounding a closet with stenciling. You can either stencil directly onto the trim, or paint the walls around the closet. Opt to make your own stencil design --- like hanging flowers, waves, or another pattern --- or choose from stencils at a home decorating store or online resource. If you have a dark wood door, like a mahogany or oak, painting the stenciled patterns in bright colors like blue, red or green will bring out the color of the wood. If you have a lighter wooden closet, like a pine-wood, use darker colors, like navy blue or purple, to show off the wood and white trim.

Minimalist

Go with white-on-white. Pick a white or off-white color for the wood closet trim. When you have painted the trim around the wood white, paint the interior of the closet the same color white. That way you have the wood door opening into a white space filled with colorful clothes, shoes and other belongings, adding color to the minimalist room.
