Space Saver Ideas For Bedroom Closets

Extra shelves can make the most of your closet space.

In many closets, much of the available space goes unused as a result of an inefficient design. By installing space-saving items, you can help maximize the available room and turn an ordinary closet into an organized, effective area. Space savers do not have to be expensive or require carpentry skills; most can be installed in an afternoon with simple tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Dual Hanging Bars

If you have many clothes that require hanging, install a second clothing bar across the bottom half of your closet. Because most items are not long enough to require the full height, you can double the available space. If you want to use the entire length of the closet, simply install a second tension bar or use bar supports on either end and brackets in the middle for extra security.

Dresser

Save space in your room by moving a small dresser into the closet instead of leaving it out in the room, which will maximize the available floor area in your bedroom and make the most of the area in your closet. Choose a dresser that has clean lines and that is only slightly wider than the door so it can slide in on an angle and fit easily.

Tall Shelves

In many closets, the area between the top shelf and the ceiling goes unused because it is taller than the average person can reach easily. Add additional storage by installing additional shelves. You can use the shelves to store items that are out of season or that do not get much use.

Hanging Organizers

Make the most of the vertical space in your closet by using hanging organizers. You can find lightweight canvas organizers at most home supply stores. Usually, they use a hanger or a hook-and-loop closure to hang from the closet bar. Use the organizers to store shoes, folded clothing or accessories like handbags and hats.

Shelves and Bins

Make use of old bookcases by installing them into your closet for an organizing system. You can use them to store shoes or folded clothing; to eliminate the need for a dresser, pair them with canvas or wire bins to organize socks and underwear. Stack two smaller units on top of each other, or use a single tall, narrow bookcase on the side of the closet.
