Hide A Gun Safe

Hiding a Gun Safe

Hiding a home gun safe is important for keeping guns away from intruders and children. According to the New Hampshire Hunter Safety Course, firearms need to be stored away from ammunition and should never be kept loaded. Because guns come in several different shapes such as rifles and handguns, you should create a hiding space based on the size of the gun. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure your gun safe. Find a space in your closet that is large enough to accommodate the size of the gun safe by measuring the closet walls. Choose a location that is beyond the reach of children.

2. Use an electric wall stud sensor to find the wall studs in the closet. Mark their location with a pencil. Drill a hole large enough for a plastic toggle bolt into the wall studs. Avoid drilling outside of the wall studs, because the weight of the gun safe may rip through the dry wall.

3. Screw the plastic toggle bolt into the hole. Wax a screw and screw it into the plastic toggle bolt. Hang the gun safe via the screws.

4. Place empty boxes or clothing over the gun safe in the closet to hide it. You can also paint the gun safe the same color as the wall to make it less obvious.

5. Place ammunition into another safe and keep in a separate room of the house. Choose an area that is cool and dry. Some choices include an insulated garage, shed or attic. Keep both safe combinations in a safe place and unmarked as combinations.
