If you are a stickler for organization and someone who believes that everything has a place, the job of a professional organizer may be worth looking into. Professional organizers can earn good wages, according to an April 2010 finding by Payscale.com, with the opportunity to earn nearly $40,000 a year just to start.


Job Defined


As a professional organizer, you will work to bring neatness and harmony into a client's home by organizing the house so that it is functional on a day-to-day basis. According to qcdesignschool.com, many professional organizers also work with their client's home to provide basic design services using weight and scale on furniture and other items to create a good flow. Sometimes referred to as declutter specialists, professional organizers are expected to be in high demand, particularly in households where both adults work full-time.


By Experience Levels


According to an April 2010 finding by Payscale.com, your earnings potential as a professional organizer will depend greatly on the amount of experience you have in the field. Those professional organizers who are just starting their careers can expect to earn on average at least $25,232 a year and up to $39,832 each year. Once you have gained at least 1 year of job experience, your earnings could increase to a minimum of $30,701 a year and go as high as $61,000 annually. Professional organizers who have worked for at least 10 years are reporting average earnings of between $29,277 and $80,000 each year.


Company Size


The number of employees where you work can also make some difference in annual earnings for professional organizers. According to a 2010 report by Payscale.com, those working for companies that have fewer that 10 employees are reporting earnings ranging between $27,514 and $50,868 a year. This includes those professionals who are self-employed. Professional organizers in companies with between 10 and 49 employees are reporting earning between $29,479 and $41,468 each year. Those workers in companies that employ more than 200 people are reporting earning between $28,496 and $62,059 annually.


Gender


In the field of professional organizers, males often tend to report better salaries than females. According to an April 2010 report by Payscale.com, of the 27 workers surveyed, females in the field reported earning at least $29,176 a year and earning up to $55,549 each year. Those male professional organizers are reporting starting out their careers at slightly lower salaries of at least $27,966 each year. Those workers, however, are topping out at higher incomes than their female counterparts, earning up to $59,941 a year.


Geography


The geography of a job, or where you work in the United States, can also have some bearing on your overall earnings potential as a professional organizer. According to an April 2010 report by Payscale.com, professional organizers who are working in the state of California are earning at least $30,252 a year and up to $40,292 a year at the top of the pay charts. Those professional organizers crafting their trade in New York State are coming out with much higher incomes. Those workers are reporting earnings of at least $37,340 a year on the lower end, and up to $63,286 a year at the top.
