Build A Wooden Closet Organizer

Build a Wooden Closet Organizer

Keeping everything squared away in your closet can be pretty tough when you have limited space. Wooden closet organizers let you take advantage of every square inch by giving everything its own storage place, efficiently arranged. Although you can purchase expensive organizers, you can build your own wooden closet organizer, suited to your specific needs, with jus ta few basic supplies. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the width and height of your closet so you can easily build the organizer to proper dimensions before installing it. Trying to build the organizer directly into the closet will offer greater stability but may prove exceptionally awkward during the process.

2. Build the organizer as if it were a standard shelf, using wide, thin boards as the portion that stands up with horizontal boards crossing it, creating shelves. You may want tie these two vertical boards together by nailing a piece of ply board to each in order to form a rear panel. This will provide greater stability once the unit is standing.

3. Attach horizontal shelves between the two vertical support panels. Alter distances between shelves so that you have ample room for larger articles such as boots or large boxes containing sundry articles.

4. Place a metal or plastic pole that runs horizontally near the top of the unit. This will serve as a place to hang jackets or other heavy clothing from a hanger. Make sure this pole is sturdy and well installed because it may be bearing a great deal of weight.

5. Hang a curtain from the top edge of the unit so that the organizer can be concealed, giving it an attractive finish; this will also help you keep the articles in the organizer segregated from the other items you have stored in your closet.
