Fit Cupboards

Cupboards in a kitchen are fitted to the wall

Whether building a new house or upgrading an existing kitchen, the cupboards need to fit properly. Taking correct measurements before the cupboards are installed can help ensure the cupboards are fitted level and the correct distance from the floor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a level on the floor, along the wall, and find the highest area. This is the footprint, or the starting point, to measure the height of the cupboards.

2. Measure up 54 inches with the tape measure. Make a mark on the wall with the pencil. This is the location for the bottom of the wall cupboards.

3. Make a line across the wall on the marks you made in Step 2 with a level and pencil.

4. Find the studs in the wall along the lines you drew in Step 3 with the stud finder. Make a mark on the wall where each stud is located.

5. Set the cupboard on cabinet jacks that have been set to 54 inches. If you do not have a cabinet jack, the cupboard needs to be held in place on the line you drew in Step 3.

6. Secure the cupboard to the wall by driving 2 1/2-inch drywall screws into the studs with the power drill.

7. Set the next cupboard in place. Align it to the line in Step 3 and the cupboard that is already on the wall.

8. Secure the cupboard to the wall. Repeat Step 7 and secure the remaining cupboards on the wall.
