What Is A Wardrobe Closet

One piece of furniture you may need but not know much about is a wardrobe closet. Not found in many homes, this classic piece of furniture brings a new storage solution into your home. Commonly referred to as an armoire, the storage solutions it provides, combined with the styling options, gives you ample opportunities to use it throughout your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Bedroom

If you live in a small studio, or have a bedroom with a small closet, get much needed space for your clothes by adding a wardrobe closet to your decor. Although the initial piece may seem a bit old-fashioned or stuffy, you can paint or refinish it to fit your current design theme. Look inside to determine whether the space works for your clothing needs, or combine functions by using the top section to hide the television and the bottom section of drawers for your seasonal clothes or shoes.

Den

One place that a wardrobe closet works well is a den being used as a bedroom. As dens typically do not have closets, this piece of furniture can hold your clothes or supplies for guests. For personal closet use, pick one that contains a section for long dresses or suits on one side with several smaller drawers on the other for personal items or folded clothes. Or, if you're using the den as a guest room, place pillows, blankets, towels and small bathroom items inside.

Living Room

A living room may seem like a strange place for a wardrobe closet, but using them to house electronics out of sight is a growing trend. Whether the wardrobe closet sits in the corner or commands attention in the center of the room, the trick is to pick one that resembles the furniture in the room. An antique wooden armoire may not look good in a sleek glass-and-chrome design scheme. Besides housing electronics, the armoire may hold linens for the dining room or extra blankets for a chilly night.

Embellish

A wardrobe closet may be personalized. A hole in the back panel would accommodate wires for a television set, stereo or computer, while drawers may become shelves to hold collections of CDs, DVDs or software programs. Stains or paint colors may be changed to complement the colors of the room, or wood trim added or removed to suit your style. A design may be painted or stenciled to the front to further a room design theme.
