Shelving Solutions For The Garage

The right shelving units will get clutter up from off the floor.

Often, it's easy to let your garage turn into the Bermuda Triangle of your household and be the dumping ground for broken appliances, old furniture and other junk. However, you can transform your garage into a paragon of efficiency just by installing new and more efficient storage solutions. For example, the shelving unit that you pick can have a tremendous effect on your garage's organization. Does this Spark an idea?

Small Corner Shelf Unit

Too many homeowners relegate their smaller tools, work items and knickknacks to one big bin, basket or drawer in their garage. Which means that if they ever want to find one specific item, they have to hunt through a large box of stuff. Instead, many home supply and home decor stores sell smaller, cylindrical shelf units for the garage. The shelf unit is made out of wood and rests on a base that allows it to spin around like a lazy Susan. You can place it in the corner of your garage, fill it with your smaller hardware and then spin it around when you need to locate a specific item.

Overhead Storage

You'll feel as though your garage is twice as large if you start to utilize your overhead storage areas. For example, if you have a washer and dryer or a work table in your garage, make sure that you install shelves above these items to fully utilize the complete space of your garage. Because the shelves are slightly harder to reach, place items up there that you don't use as often, like camping equipment or seasonal sports items. Since your shelves are above important items, select shelves that have rails or small ledges to prevent items from hitting your appliances or a member of your household.

Work Table Shelving

If your garage is also a place where you do handiwork and carpentry, make the most out of your work table. Because a work table takes up a lot of room in the garage, you want to make sure that you're getting the most out of it. Select a work table that has built-in shelves underneath the work surface. Use the shelves to store items that you use most frequently or as a place to store projects in progress. These types of shelves offer you a place to store large items that won't fit on traditional shelves.
