Shelves To An Underthestairs Closet

One thing almost every homeowner has in common is the need for proper storage space. Utilizing every possible bit of extra space is often required to keep a house looking clean and uncluttered. Many staircases in double-floor homes have a closet installed under them for extra space. Hanging some simple shelves in the closet can provide a place to place hats, bowling balls or any other item that doesn't fit elsewhere in your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Run a stud finder along the back wall of the closet. Make a mark on the wall with a pencil whenever the stud finder indicates there is a stud.

2. Set a mounting bracket on the wall where the stud is located and mark the location of the top hole in the bracket. Set a level on the wall against the mark, and make another mark on the next stud over when the spirit level is even.

3. Drill a 1/2-inch pilot hole into each mark. Insert the metal flange of a Toggler bolt into the hole and slide the plastic toggle in behind. Pull back on the plastic Toggler until the metal piece is secured in the wall. Slide the plastic ring around the Toggler to the wall. Bend the plastic straps of the Toggler until they snap off at the wall. A Toggler bolt reinforces the shelf so it can support heavy objects.

4. Mount the bracket by inserting a screw through the bracket into the toggle. Drive a bottom screw into the hole of the bracket. Repeat this step for the second mounting bracket for your shelving.

5. Insert a shelving bracket into each of the mounting brackets and place the shelves on the bracket. Secure the shelf to the shelving bracket with a screw if one was included with your kit.
