Bedroom Closet Solutions

There are several ways to create a 'closet' in a bedroom with limited storage space.

The bedroom closet is often your main storage area for personal belongings -- and you'll want to keep it as orderly as possible, regardless of its size. Whether you've just moved into a bedroom with a spacious closet or need to come up with alternative storage for your clothes and shoes, there are various decorative choices that are also highly functional. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

If your bedroom closet is fairly small, it may be a good idea to only hang clothes for the season in the closet and store the rest in your basement or garage. This will eliminate clutter, and make it easier to find your favorite outfits. For larger closets, adding a shelf or two in the closet will make for simple organization of smaller items, such as jewelry and accessories.

Function

Adding items to your closet that help keep you more organized is ideal. For instance, a rotating tie and belt rack will free up rack and shelf space for your clothing. Or, you can hang a shoe rack on the back of the closet door to free up closet floor space.

Considerations

To ensure that your bedroom closet stays neat, it may be a good idea to remove the door so that the closet is part of the room. Painting the door the same color as the accent wall in the bedroom or replacing the closet door with a curtain may motivate you to declutter the closet and get rid of clothes and shoes that are no longer needed.
