How Dress As A Lady Pirate

Use items already in your closet to create a lady pirate costume.

Pirate movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Peter Pan" and "Treasure Island" are full of adventure and keep audiences of all ages captivated with their adrenaline and on-deck goings-on. Not all pirates were men, and creating an outfit to dress as a lady pirate will give you something to wear for Halloween, costume parties or school plays. Even though a pirate's wardrobe seems a little out there by today's fashion standards, you can put a costume together with things you already have in your closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather together all the basic clothing items you will need to make the costume. If you don't have an old pair of leather pants, a long, black or brown skirt with dark-colored leggings underneath will also work. Find a light-colored button-down shirt with long sleeves, a bandanna for your head, and a vest. If you don't need these clothing items for any other purposes, make strategic cuts in them with a pair of scissors to make them look worn and tattered. For example, you can cut a hole in the knee of your pants or a rip across the shoulder of your shirt. If you like, you can even rub dirt into the clothes to make them look dirty and more authentic.

2. Put on the basic clothing items first like the pants or skirt and the shirt. Tuck the shirt in and then put on your vest and tie the bandanna around your head. You can pull your hair back into a ponytail or put it in braids. Pull on a pair of boots to complete the basic lady pirate look.

3. Add different pirate accessories to your outfit to complete it. What you use as accessories will depend on what you already have lying around your home, and what you decide you can afford to purchase at your local party or costume store. Use things like flashy earrings, a tattered scarf around your waist, a toy sword, beads in your hair, or a pirate's hat.
