Make Underbed Storage From Vintage Dresser Drawers

Convert old dresser drawers into handy under-bed storage space.

Under-bed storage is a convenient way to store out-of-season clothing, jackets or pajamas. It can also be useful for paper items that are important, photographs or even toys in a child's room. A vintage dresser may take up too much space in your home, but repurposing the drawers to become under-bed storage may be a perfect solution for what to do with the dresser. Putting wheels on the drawers will make it easier to slide under the bed and pull out when needed.

Instructions

1. Place some newspaper down on your work surface and put a drawer on top of it. This project may be easier done outside on a patio or other well-ventilated area. Sand the rough edges of the drawer with sandpaper.

2. Paint the dresser drawers whatever color you like using wood paint and a paintbrush. Sometimes vintage drawers can look pretty rough, and unless you don't mind the antique look, painting the drawers can give them new life. Allow the paint to dry per the instructions.

3. Flip the drawer over so you are looking at the bottom of the drawer. Place a caster in each corner to get an idea of where you want them to go. Drill the holes for each caster.

4. Screw the casters into place with the screws provided. Most casters will have four screws. Screw them tightly so they won't come loose. If the casters aren't an equal distance away from each other, it really doesn't matter. The casters are for function and not for looks.

5. Turn the drawer back over and check out the inside of it. Clean out any debris or dust that's in the drawer using a dust cloth.

6. Line the drawer with shelf paper or self-adhesive Con-Tact paper. This paper comes in many colors and designs so you can match the paper to the color of the drawer.
