Peg Board Ideas

Pegboards are great for organizing tools in garage and basement workshops

Pegboards are versatile for many uses throughout a home. Pegboard sheets can be purchased at your local hardware store in varying sizes depending on your needs. Some hardware stores also offer to cut pegboard sheets if a sheet is too large for your purposes. Measure the ideal space where the pegboard will be used and purchase all necessary items for function and decoration. Does this Spark an idea?

Garage and Basement

A pegboard on a wall behind a work bench in a garage or basement (or both) is a great way to keep tools organized and visible. Create a backing frame out of 2X4's that creates a perimeter around each edge of the pegboard. This will keep the pegboard stable and provide some dimension so the pegboard is not directly against wall. A cross brace can be added for additional support if necessary, but it may interfere when hanging tools on the pegboard. Use metal hooks of varying sizes to hang large tools like hammers, pliers and saws. Small bins or plastic jars (made for pegboard use) can hold nuts, nails and any other loose materials.

Kitchen

A kitchen pegboard can hold pots, pans and any other kitchen utensils. Paint the pegboard to match your existing kitchen décor if you wish to have your pegboard blend in, but you can paint it to stand out from existing décor as well. Use pegboards on the insides of kitchen doors and cabinets to hang various items out of sight. For example, if you have a large amount of spices but they get pushed toward the back of a hard to reach cabinet, attach a pegboard to each door and use plastic pegboard jars to hold the spices. Use a pegboard above your oven (if you have enough wall and ceiling space) to hang pots and pans. Attach a 2X4 frame to the back of the pegboard so there is enough dimension to freely hang them.

Home Office

A pegboard can accompany an existing bulletin board and free up a cluttered desk space. Use a pegboard to hold loose office supplies like paper clips and staples. If your home office is absent of an overhead light, purchase a portable track light (or use an existing portable light source) and attach it to the top of the pegboard (or wherever it is convenient) with movable peg hooks. Use a pegboard as a "background" for a bulletin board (if you primarily use a bulletin board) and this will allow you to continually use the bulletin board in addition to a few pegboard spaces for hanging office supplies.
