Create a closet organizer on a bare wall to store shoes, accessories and even tomorrow's outfit. Scale this organizer to fit your space. If you have a narrow walk-in closet, this is ideal, but it can also be used on the back wall of a closet or even tucked behind your bathroom door. With simple modifications, the same organizer plan can be used for a coat closet or a child's room. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Measure the space available for your wall closet organizer and determine the desired finished size. Make a small pegboard organizer to hold jewelry or a very large one to manage your handbags, shoes and accessories. Draw out your organizer on graph paper, planning for shelves, large hooks and small hooks.
2. Cut pegboard to size, using a circular saw. Cut frame molding to fit the pegboard, mitering all four corners with a simple miter box and hand saw if you prefer a more finished look; if not, use a finished frame or framing components. Cut lumber to fit pegboard shelf supports slightly shorter than the width of your pegboard.
3. Paint the pegboard to coordinate with your closet. Choose a color that will allow your accessories to stand out. Paint or stain the trim molding as desired.
4. Nail the molding into place on the pegboard with finish nails, carefully lining up the corners for a neat, framed look. Use a level to mark the correct position on the wall, then screw your wall closet organizer onto the wall surface. Use wood screws if you are securing your pegboard directly to the wall studs or drywall anchors if necessary.
5. Touch up paint on screws and nails for a neat, finished look. Allow to dry thoroughly.
6. Install pegs for shelves and hanging items. Allow adequate space below and around each peg. If desired, label pegs with photos or small hanging tags. Use shelves to store shoes, larger pegs for handbags, tote bags or hanging outfits and small ones for jewelry or lightweight scarves.
