Diy Home Storage

Finding storage space in your home isn't as difficult as you think. Some creativity and the right supplies will help you find plenty of previously unused storage space in your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Closets

Install hooks or shoe organizers on the insides of your closet doors. This way you can hang things on the hooks or store small items or shoes in the shoe organizers.

Add shelves at the bottom of your closet; put bins on them for items such as hats, gloves or other items. If there is space below the shelves, remember you can store bins or bulkier items such as shoes there as well.

Install a shelf over the clothes bar to efficiently use the space at the top of your closet. Put more bins on these shelves and store items that aren't used frequently. You can also store shoes on the shelves in labeled shoe boxes. Space Bags will reduce the required storage space for clothes and other soft items. You can store Space Bags in closets, under beds or in an attic.

For even more storage space, use special hangers for ties and hangers that hold multiple pairs of pants. If you have a lot of belts, consider installing a coat rack or hooks on the wall behind your clothes to store them. This keeps them hidden and doesn't take up any extra space.

Bedrooms

Find storage space under the beds in your home. For extra space, purchase risers for beneath the four legs of your bed to lift it up so that you have more storage space underneath it. Put things under the bed such as sliding storage containers with seasonal clothes, special under-bed storage units for shoes or even that card table that you only use once or twice a year.

Bathrooms

Storing items in a bathroom can be particularly difficult. Install simple wine racks on the wall to store rolled up towels. This even adds a decorative touch to your bathroom. Use towel holders that have a shelf over top of them for added shelf space. Install a medicine cabinet if you can.

Create storage directly in your walls by cutting into the wall (be sure to check for pipes and electrical wires first). Cut out an area and then use plywood to create the back and sides for your wall cubby. Paint the boards to match your bathroom, or paint them an accent color for an added visual effect. You can put toiletries or candles in these cubbies.

Kitchens

Make effective use of your cabinets by installing food-wrap holders on the insides of your cabinet to store your aluminum foil, plastic wrap and wax paper. Put a small cookie sheet on a shelf and put your spices on it. This way when you're looking for a particular spice you can slide the cookie sheet out and see what spices you have.

If you have adjustable shelves, space the shelves so that you can fit the items you need on them. Create a taller shelf area to allow for storage of tall items such as vases, wine glasses and champagne flutes.

Install a shelving unit on the inside of your pantry door. In it, you can store extra canned goods, pasta boxes, other food boxes or packets. Keep your pantry organized for optimal space.
