Laundry Folding And Storage

Laundry is done best when organized and folded properly.

Laundry is no one's favorite chore, but someone has to do it. Folding laundry keeps clothing tidy, organized and ready to go. Keeping your clothing folded and stored properly will save you time in the future. You will know where things are when creating an outfit, and there will be fewer wrinkles to iron out. Plus, fresh laundry looks and smells fresh. Does this Spark an idea?

Tops

Tops are typically folded into neat squares or rectangles. Try to get the shirt as flat as possible, folding the sleeves or arms to the back of the shirt. Fold the shirt in half, so the chest is at the front and then fold it in half again. You should end up with a neat rectangular fold.

Bottoms

Bottoms are typically folded into squares or rectangles. Fold the pants in half, length-wise, lining up the bottoms of the legs with each other. Then, fold the legs up to the butt-pocket, and then fold in half once again. You should end up with a tidy square-shaped pair of paints.

Laundry Tips

Try to fold your laundry as soon as it is done in the dryer. This is the best time to fold because the laundry is light, fresh and has fewer wrinkles.

If you are doing other peoples' laundry too, sort everyone's clothing into separate piles.

Entertain yourself while you fold. Take your laundry to the living room and watch your favorite show or movie while you fold. Or listen to some music.

Hanging Versus Folding

Hanging your laundry is also a smart option. If you own dress pants, linens, blouses or clothing made of material that wrinkles easily, hang it up. Or, if you have a bigger closet than you do a dresser, utilize your space and hang more of your clothing. Bulky items, like jackets and sweaters, are better to hang as well, because they might take up too much space in your drawers.

Dressers and Drawers

Organization is essential when it comes to laundry. You need to be able to find your clothing easily when dressing. Knowing where shirts, pants and underwear are is important, and it will save you from making a mess searching for random socks or items.

Create a separate drawer for underwear, jeans, dress pants, socks, shirts and sweaters. Dividing your dresser up like this will make clothing easier to put away and to locate.

Closets

If you have a big closet, use it. You can easily organize your clothing in a nice, spacious closet. Color coordinating your closet is one way to organize. Put all the warm-colored clothing together and all the cool-colored clothing together.

If you don't like that idea, then organize by style. Hang all the dresses together, all the tank-tops together, all the turtlenecks together, all the vests together, all the jeans together and so on. This method makes it simple to compare and contrast outfits when deciding what to wear.
