Do It Yourself Closet Organizing

Organize your closet to make life simpler.

Organizing your interior bedroom closets will simplify your life and it make it easier to get dressed in the morning because you'll find what you need faster. It's a project anyone can tackle with minimal home improvement skills. In fact, no building is required. If you plan right for this project, you'll find that all your stuff fits right inside the space and shelving you already have. The more you plan, the faster you'll get the job done. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clean out everything and place your things in a large room where it will be easy to organize them. Make sure there is plenty of space to fit everything from the closet, and if necessary, remove the small furniture in the room to allow space to fit your things.

2. Place all your similar items into plies starting with shoes. Stack the boxes so you get a good idea on how much space they take up. The same goes with your clothes. Fold them and stack them as you will in the closet. Then group the other odds and ends into piles. The idea is to see how much space you'll need for each group of items.

3. Take measurements of the closet space including the shelves and floor where the items will be stored. Write the measurements down. Next, take measurements of the piles you created in the above step, and then start deciding where things will go based on what space you have available.

4. Bring your items back into the closet one section at a a time. For instance, take the shoes back in and place them where you have deemed they fit the best. Then bring in the clothes. Take time to label your shoeboxes if you keep the shoes in the box, with the type of shoe inside, using a marker or pen on a label or sticky note. This way, you will not have to open boxes to see what is inside, ruining your organized closet.

5. Complete the organization by taking all of the remaining items back into the closet and positioning them in the spaces you deemed most appropriate. If additional space is needed, use the floor, or stack odd-shaped items on end, to clear shelf space.
