Hang Double Closet Doors

Bi-fold doors come in a variety of styles, including louvered.

Double closet doors, or bi-fold doors, are an ideal alternative to sliding or swing-out doors. While sliding closet doors cover half the closet when they are opened, and swing-out doors require ample space for the doors to be opened, bi-fold doors fold over on themselves and allow you to see all of your closet. With some tools and elbow grease, you can install double bi-fold doors yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Center the track along the middle of the top of the door frame. Place the side of the track that contains the butt plate against the top corner of the door frame. The plate will hold the top of the door in place. Insert the screws that came with the door kit into the holes drilled in the track. Screw the track into place in the top of the door frame.

2. Screw the floor bracket to the bottom corner of the door frame and the bottom of the wall that butts against the door frame. The floor bracket will hold the bottom of the door in place.

3. Insert the spring-assembly dowel into the hole in the inner corner at the top of the door. This dowel will allow the door to spring open. Place the standard dowel in the outer hole on the top of the door. This dowel will guide the door along the top of the track when it is opened and closed. Insert the screw-assembly dowel into the hole in the bottom of the door. This dowel will help the door fold over when it is opened. In addition to helping the door operate, the dowels also hold the door in place.

4. Insert the spring-assembly dowel on the top of the bi-fold door into the plate on the top of the door track. Place the bottom dowel into the bottom bracket. Pull the door closed, and set the standard dowel in the top of the door into its track.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 on the opposite side of the closet.
