What Color Furniture Goes With Brown Wood Closet Doors

Match dark wood furniture to the closet door.

The brown wood of the closet determines the color and style choices for other key elements of the room. Avoid most pastels, black and grey; instead, select tones that go well against brown. Traditional or rustic styles harmonize well with brown wood, while ultra-modern chromes or monochrome color themes will make the closet door stand out in a jarring fashion. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose your bed first because it is the focal point of the room. A four-poster frame that matches the wood of the closet or a brass bed are foundations of a traditional look. Another possibility is a more modern bed frame, with both frame and headboard matching the wood of the door.

2. Match side tables and bureau to the wood of the door for a traditional look. Alternatively, paint furniture white or beige to match your walls and cover with paisley or kilim fabrics for a rich tone to complement your closet door.

3. Add matching window treatments to keep the room balanced. Wood blinds can continue the color theme of the door. For a lighter, more open look, place dark wood curtain rods over the windows and use beige or ivory tab-top curtains. Raw silk in neutral tones adds a luxurious touch.

4. Continue the color of the door in a dark hardwood floor or add oriental scatter rugs with rich burgundy or jade tones over existing floor treatments for sumptuous, rich colors and texture.
